The man, the myth, the legend. The years pass and the Rosario native, in one way or another, keeps breaking records and becoming even more of a legend. Messi did not lift LaLiga this year, but he will take home the Pichichi Trophy.
And he will do it with much less effort than in other years. The 25 goals he has scored this season have helped him win individual recognition once again, for the fourth time in a row.
This year's Pichichi trophy matches the 06-07 season, becoming the lowest goal tally since, but it is also the lowest record of the other editions the Argentine has won (34, 50, 46, 37, 34 and 36).
His goal rate has lowered, but he remains fundamental at Barça. With his 21 assists, the Argentinean participates in more than half of the goals the team scores.
Messi already accumulates seven Pichichi Trophies with this one in his credit, being the first football player in reaching this mark. Until then he shared the first place with Zarra (six). Now he's alone at the peak.
Leo is one of the 11 players who have won this award wearing the colours of Barcelona. Martín, César, Ré, Charly Rexach, Kronkl, Quini -on two occasions- Romario, Ronaldo, Eto'o and Luis Suárez were the others to achieve it.
With his last speech after a disappointing loss to Osasuna a few days ago, Messi laid out the plan for the upcoming days: to be at the very best shape before the Champions League's return.
