Mbappe sent off after VAR consulation

The starlet returned for action in the game, but he failed to see out the 90 minutes as he was sent off just after the hour mark.

Mbappe gave the ball away to Ismaila Sarr in the middle of the park and went about chasing his man down.

Keen to stop the counter, Mbappe had not one but two bites at the cherry, eventually fouling the Rennes youngster.

The referee immediately awarded the Frenchman a yellow card, but that was soon upgraded to red after a VAR referral revealed that Mbappe had caught his man on the calf with his studs.

As Mbappe left the pitch he could be seen gesturing to cameras asking why his challenge had been deemed a red card and the one made by Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes that injured the youngster in his last game had not.
