The result marks Scottish boss Alex McLeish's maiden victory at the helm of the national squad. After Scotland were defeated by Costa Rica on Friday, McLeish turned to Phillips in a bid to refresh the options up front.
The centre forward said: ''I'm buzzing. It's a very proud moment for me and my family. Also, we won a game, the manager's second game, and it was important for us to start winning again.''
Phillips also added that he was happy to continue in his new position, he said: ''Wherever the manager picks me on the pitch, I will give my best and give 100 per cent for the shirt.''
With Steven Fletcher and Leigh Griffiths injured, and Chris Martin and Steven Naismith having scored only two goals each this season, it's seems as though McLeish may have found his solution in Phillips.
