Matip late strike lets Liverpool off the hook

Liverpool controlled the game during the first half but Ajax did not give up. Although for the first ten minutes both teams struggled to keep possession, but the Reds ended up dominating the Dutch side. 

Klopp's team only needed the first chance to score the first goal of the match and take the lead. Alisson found the head of Luis Diaz with a long pass. Jota received the ball on the edge of the box and passed to Salah. The Egyptian, once inside the box, beat Pasveer with a shot to the near post. 

However, Ajax equalised ten minutes later thanks to a superb goal by Kudus. Berghuis received the ball with space on the left flank and squared it to the penalty spot. Kudus, who was there, received the ball, turned and smashed it into the top corner.

Although the Anfield side had several chances to score the second goal, Pasveer's great performance prevented the English side from going into the break with the lead.

The Reds were in control during the second half but struggled to score the winning goal. In the 88th minute, Tsimikas crossed the ball from the corner, and it found Matip's head. The centre-back's header was cleared by Tadic but the ball had already crossed the goal line.
