Mario Gomez, one of the last survivors

Just over 12 years have passed since Stuttgart lifted their last Bundesliga. The Germans beat Energie Cottbus 2-1 to win the title with a squad that included Khedira, Hildebrand, Cacau and Mario Gomez.

More than a decade later, only Mario Gomez and Gentner remain from that historic roster. The former passed through Bayern, Fiorentina or Besiktas before returning, while Gentner had a stunt at Wolfsburg.

This Monday, Stuttgart will experience a much more complex situation. They must avoid relegation in the second leg of the play-off against Union Berlin, who drew 2-2 in Stuttgart.

As if it was destined, the Stuttgart goalscorers were Mario Gomez and Gentner in the first leg, and again it's these two players that will have to push their team to avoid a relegation that could knock the club out.
