Manchester United, on their search for an emergency left-back to fill in for the injured Luke Shaw, presented an offer to Barcelona defender Marcos Alonso last week.
The deal was for two years, with the Spaniard filling in this season on loan, but then remaining for a further year once his contract in Spain runs out in June 2024.
However 'Marca' reports that the 32-year-old has turned down the Red Devils, making it clear that he intends to fight for his place in Xavi Hernandez's squad. He renewed his contract in January 2023, and clearly means to make good on his intentions.
The defender joined Barcelona just last September, after the window had closed as he was released by Chelsea on September 1st. Starting in 20 of his 37 appearances last season, Alonso looks likely this season to continue playing second fiddle to Alex Balde, who has cemented himself in the Catalans' starting XI.
Although Erik ten Hag's side can't necessarily count on the Spanish international now, other players on their shortlist include Blues defender Marc Cucurella, who has been in opening talks with the Manchester side about a loan move this season.
