Marcelo, who won the Copa Libertadores with Fluminense, said that the victory of the Brazilian team "was written". Asked whether it was the most important title of his career, despite winning five Champions League titles with Madrid, he said it was the most special of all.
"Madrid will understand. It's my most important title at club level. It's the team I grew up with," he explained.
Although he spent a large part of his career at the Bernabéu, he will never forget his roots: "Madrid is in my heart, but Fluminense is even difficult to talk about".
In his first statements to 'Globo' television, Marcelo said he "owed a debt" to Fluminense, the club where he was formed and to which he returned after spending most of his playing career in Europe.
"I worked hard. There were a lot of people criticising," said the Brazilian, who concluded by saying that "the club is celebrating".
