Man City want £50m Frankfurt striker Marmoush in January

Manchester City's latest victories over Leicester and West Ham have not made Pep Guardiola forget that the defending Premier League champions need reinforcements during the January transfer window. In fact,  the Catalan manager seems to have already made up his mind on who to go after as City are reportedly after Eintracht Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush.

According to 'The Telegraph', Man City are pushing for the forward, who is valued at around £50m, as they believe he could aid in the pursuit of the league leaders Liverpool after a torrid two months. The Citizens are also missing a replacement for Erling Haaland after selling Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid for a club record £82m in the summer, but Marmoush is believed to fit the profile of the Argentine striker. 

The 25-year-old, who only recently exploded at the top level, has been firing up the Bundesliga after joining Frankfurt on a free transfer from Wolfsburg at the start of the previous campaign. He is only behind Harry Kane in the league's scoring charts with 13 goals - as well as 7 assists - to his name. Such numbers are why the German side are reluctant to deprive themselves of their Egyptian gem.

That said, if there is one club that can afford to splash out large sums of money mid-season, it's City, especially given that their hopes for a fifth consecutive Premier League title could fade away should they fail to turn things around in this second half of the season. Guardiola's side are also in the market for a defender with 20-year-old Abdukodir Khusanov from Lens at the top of their list.
