Man City urging Rodri to renew as Real Madrid threat looms ahead

Manchester City are trying to get Rodri to extend his contract as soon as possible. The hero from the Champions League Final against Inter has three years left on his contract with the club, and while that may seem a lot, City are wasting no time to renew the Spaniard, as fears that Real Madrid come calling increase. 

After being named EURO 2024's Player of the Tournament and getting tipped to win the Ballon d'Or, Rodri's stock has risen globally, meaning only selected clubs can afford the player from a financial and sporting perspective. According to 'The Athletic', Real Madrid are interested in the midfielder, thus proving City's suspicions right.

Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal, for example, has always been open about wanting his copatriot to the Santiago Bernabeu. That said, 'Los Blancos' are reportedly not willing to match the amounts offered by Man City to the player and would, instead, rather wait for the Citizens' hearing following the 115 charges that have been brought by the Premier League and UEFA against the club. The European Champions believe there may be an opportunity to make a move for the 28-year-old, should Manchester City be found guilty.

Although Rodri is happy with life at City, a move to the 'Meringues' could be appealing for the Madrid-born star. As of now, Man City will simply look to get a new deal for the player as quickly as possible, though any stalls in the negotiations would not have any severe repercussions, given the player's contract expires in 2027. Whether Real Madrid makes a move for Rodri, it remains to be seen after City's saga with the charges finishes.
