Madrid's appeal against Vinicius sanction dismissed

Carlo Ancelotti already knows that Vinicius will not be available for the next two league games. 'Partidazo de COPE' has reported that the Appeals Committee has rejected Madrid's appeal, so the sanction against the Brazilian player, who was sent off at Mestalla for hitting Dimitrievski, will stand.

The body has considered insufficient the allegations presented by Madrid, which also received the rejection of the Competition Committee last Tuesday. As soon as they were informed of the decision, the Merengue side considered the decision to be unfair, as reported by the newspaper ‘AS’.

"Consequently, this Appeal Committee concludes that the sanction imposed by the Disciplinary Committee, consisting of a two-match suspension, is fully in accordance with the law. The possible existence of prior provocation, although it could be considered as an attenuating circumstance, does not justify an additional reduction of the sanction, having already applied the criterion most favourable to the offender by imposing the minimum sanction foreseen. The contested decision must therefore be upheld in its entirety. In accordance with the foregoing, the appeal must be dismissed. In short, the Appeal Committee agrees to dismiss the appeal lodged by Real Madrid", reads the Appeal statement.

Madrid's last option is to appeal to the Administrative Court of Sport (TAD), for which they have 15 working days (until 31 January). If they decide not to go to CAS, the ‘’Merengue‘’ team will be without Vinicius for the next two matches of the Spanish league. The Brazilian will be out for sure against Las Palmas and Valladolid.

The Brazilian will be available for the last 16 of the Copa del Rey against Celta as well as the last two Champions League games against Salzburg and Brest. His return to the league would take place on 1 February, at the RCDE Stadium against Espanyol.
