Over the years, Lyon will have made thousands of bad decisions. Some of them would not have led to big changes, but others could have sent the French side to the top of French football.
What would have been of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lyon if the Portuguese had joined them? That we will never know although what was revealed was that the French side turned down a swap deal which included the current Juventus star signing for Lyon.
"They had proposed a swap deal with Ronaldo and other player, who would come to Lyon on loan, and I would have gone to Sporting Lisbon. This was in 2002, Cristiano was still young (17). Lyon today must be upset they rejected that deal, it's a funny thing," Tony Vairelles, the ex-Lyon player, told 'Canal+' a couple of years ago.
A year after this, Alex Ferguson brought Ronaldo to Manchester United. The Portuguese ended up making history in England as he did later on at Real Madrid. Lyon, meanwhile, saw Cristiano score against him on more than one occasion and must have thought "if only we had accepted that deal."
