Lunin agree terms to renew until 2029 with Real Madrid

With the rupture of Thibaut Courtois' anterior cruciate ligament at the start of the season, a gaping hole was created in the Real Madrid goal that the board wanted to fill with the arrival of Kepa Arrizabalaga on loan. Unfortunately for the Spaniard, Andriy Lunin beat him in direct competition for the position and has already started 30 times this season, the best record of his career in Spain.

Because of this great display, the 'Merengues' board intend to renew him until 2029, as advanced by the newspaper 'Relevo'. The media outlet specifies that the intention of Florentino Perez & Co. is to compensate him with a salary increase and a general improvement in his conditions due to his remarkable performance both in La Liga and the Champions League and in the Copa del Rey, although especially in Europe.

This does not mean that a potential departure during the transfer window is ruled out. The two parties will consider any proposal that arrives and that is attractive both in terms of project and economy, as the Ukrainian is aware that, however much he has shone this season, he is behind his Belgian counterpart in the coming season and maybe even in the Champions League final in Wembley against Borussia Dortmund.

Lunin is looking forward to continuing to compete with Courtois, who may, as the years go by, end up giving up his place as a matter of course. He is 32 years old and the former Leganes, Valladolid and Oviedo player is 25, so it is logical to imagine that, by the time Courtois retires, if he is still in the squad currently managed by Carlo Ancelotti, he will be the main man tipped to step up and take over the starting role.
