Nabil Bentaleb, Lille's midfielder and one of Paulo Fonseca's key players in the last season, has made headlines in the last few hours. The club reported that the player had to be hospitalised.
"Lille inform that Nabil Bentaleb suffered an illness on Tuesday evening, 18th June. The player was immediately treated and sent to the University Hospital of Lille for hospitalisation," the French club said briefly.
The club added that they wanted to give him all their support during this difficult time: "We are accompanying him as closely as possible during this terrible experience and we offer him all our support. Finally, Lille asked for "respect for the player's private life".
The player, who started his career at Tottenham and has had spells at Schalke, Newcastle and Angers, has received an endless stream of words of encouragement.
The Spurs dedicated a few words to him as soon as they learned of Bentaleb's hospital admission. "We are all with you, Nabil," read one of their X messages. The Algerian national team, meanwhile, wished him a "speedy recovery" after "the health problem" he suffered.
There are hardly any details about the illness that would have landed the player in hospital, although there is talk of the possibility of it being cardiac. 'L'Equipe' reports that Bentaleb was found to have myocarditis during a medical last summer, but was eventually able to sign for three seasons with Lille.
