There were fouls abundant in Sunday's clash, which saw Stephen Zuber cancel out Philippe Coutinho's opener to earn both sides a point. Neymar alone drew 10 fouls, and it was seemingly a tactic of Switzerland's to go in heavy on the PSG forward.
Talking after full-time, though, Stephan Lichtsteiner had a different point of view, unsurprisingly. The defender, who recently made the switch from Juventus to Arsenal, was shown yellow for a foul on Brazil's captain, but he believes that Neymar and co. went down a bit too softly.
“I was a little bit worried about the referee,” Lichtsteiner said after the draw. “Every time they fell down, it was a whistle, a foul."
"This was a bit of a challenge," he continued. "You think: ‘Don’t be too aggressive because every time they go down, it’s a foul.’ For that I was a bit careful after my yellow card.”
Lichtsteiner had stated before the game that it is almost impossible to nullify Neymar, and he echoed these thoughts afterwards. “It’s very difficult to play against Neymar," he said.
“He’s fast, he’s technical and you need to keep up with him all the time because he’s dangerous. It’s a big challenge.”
