More rope for the 'Chumi case'. Although it is not clear as to whether Barcelona fielded an ineligible player in Chumi last week, Levante has decided to submit a formal complaint to the RFEF this Friday, whatever the outcome of the tie at the Camp Nou.
President Quico Catalán confirmed the news in a statement, from outside the hotel that the Valencian side had been staying ahead of the second leg of the cup tie. He said: "It is not comfortable for us, but we think that there is reason to believe an offence has been committed, Logically, we have been working all afternoon with our legal team."
In the same press briefing, Catalán added: "Whatever happenes on the pitch happens, but regardless, Levante will present its case to the RFEF this Friday. We understand that there is a law with which we are obliged to report this to the authorities."
Hours before the announcement, 'Catalunya Radio' reported that the RFEF was aware of the offence, but could not officially deal with the issue until a complaint was raised. The issue had already been so widely publicised that it had already been expecting the written complaint from Levante. In essence, Levante should have alerted the RFEF within 48 hours of the match being contested, although a precedent exists for the case to still be answered.
At present, the RFEF are yet to release any statement, so too Barcelona, that is aside from what has not already been leaked to the media. At the Camp Nou, the tie will be decided on the pitch. If not, Levante will pursue legal means of justice.
