Gibson made 51 appearances in all competitions for Middlesbrough last season, and contributed a goal and three assists.
Leicester appear to be eyeing up a number of defensive options, despite claiming that Harry Maguire is not for sale.
The Foxes have insisted that Maguire is not for sale for any price, but Manchester United seem to still be pursuing the England international.
United would be prepared to offer over £65million for Maguire.
Meanwhile, Leicester may be discussing a £30,000-a-week pay rise to try and keep United at bay until the window closes on August 9.
Leicester will face United in the first match of the season on August 10.
Maguire on the other hand, seems convinced that he will make the move to United, but Mourinho would have to get rid of one of their five central-defenders for the deal to happen.
The Foxes are also looking to offload a number of their players before the transfer window closes.
Leonardo Ulloa, Islam Slimani, Ahmed Musa and Nampalys Mendy are all in the mixer for a move.
