USA president Joe Biden, vice-president Kamala Harris, NBA star LeBron James and Inter Miami owner David Beckham celebrated USA's qualification for the last 16 of the World Cup.
One of the first to celebrate USA's 1-0 win over Iran was Biden who, after giving a speech in Michigan, returned to inform those present of the result. "USA one, Iran nil. The match is over!," the president said.
Even the White House showed its support for the USA team in the opening exchanges of the match with the slogan 'Go Team USA, we're all with you.'
Vice-president Harris also celebrated them making the last 16, something that had not happened since 2014, with a message on Twitter: "Congratulations to the USMNT on an thrilling win and advancing at the World Cup!"
The match, which was decided by a Christian Pulisic goal in the first half, was also followed by LA Lakers star LeBron James and Atlanta Hawks' Trae Young. "Congrats MEN on advancing! Keep going!!," he wrote.
Among the sports stars and former sport stars to congratulate the team was David Beckham, who shared a dressing room with USA coach Gregg Berhalter. "Amazing achievement. Well done Gregg".
Actor Matthew McConaughey was among the others to send his congratulations. He loves football and has invested in MLS side Austin FC.
