UD Las Palmas goalkeeper Alvaro Valles has said, after being awarded at the XXXVII edition of the ‘Gala de Deportes de La Rinconada’, his hometown, that "hopefully one day I can play for Betis", who tried to sign him last summer.
"They let me know that they want to count on me. It's my home, I wish one day I could play for my home club, although we'll see what the future holds. Every footballer likes to succeed in his homeland," said Alvaro Valles.
The 27-year-old goalkeeper from Seville, whose contract with Las Palmas expires on 30 June, declined a number of offers to leave in the summer and has not played a single minute so far this season, as the Gran Canarian president, Miguel Angel Ramirez, announced when the player refused to renew his contract.
Alvaro Valles said he was "proud to be one of the flagships of sport in La Rinconada", while Javier Fernandez (PSOE), the Rinconada mayor and president of the Seville provincial council, described the goalkeeper as ‘a mirror' of sacrifice in which "all his countrymen see themselves reflected."
