The 35-year-old player made the comment in a nightclub, when a fan asked him for a photo.
Kyle Lafferty, Northern Ireland international, will not be able to play on the pitch until January when Kilmarnock play Celtic in the semi-finals of the Scottish League Cup.
"I would like to apologise to the club, the fans and my family for the problems caused. I completely understand that my reaction was out of line. There is no excuse, it's something I regretted instantly and I've been ashamed ever since I did it. I accept that I shouldn't have replied in that way," the footballer said.
This is not the first racist episode we have seen in top level football. In September, Brazil beat Tunisia in Paris and the player Richarlison received racist insults.
