The German midfielder clashed knees with the Frenchman who came dashing in to win the ball.
The injury could have been much worse had his leg been planted on the ground, instead it was Kroos' ligament that took most of the blow. He is expected to be out for at least two weeks.
Following the foul, Zidane allowed Kroos to play on, neither of them noticing the injury. With his mind fixed on the game, the German wasn't aware of the tension and heat emanating from his knee.
Interestingly, it was Kroos who covered the most turf of any Real Madrid player in a historic game for the side, running the most kilometers they've ever ran in the Champions League.
Despite the bad news surrounding his injury, Real are optimistic that Kroos will be fit for the return fixture at the Parc des Princes.
