Kroos on Cucurella's handball - "It took them three months to see what we saw in a second"

Toni Kroos has never been quiet about what he thinks. Now, after retiring from football, he will not be any less so. The end of his career came with Germany's elimination at the hands of Spain at Euro 2024 in a match that was full of controversy.

This week, UEFA clarified the most controversial point: Marc Cucurella's handball on Jamal Musiala's shot. The Referees Committee issued a report to the international referees stating that the action should have ended in a penalty.

After the report was published, the former Germany midfielder was visibly angered during a commentary on the Icon League, his version of the Kings League, as reported by 'Bild'.

"It took them three months to realise there was a handball, which almost everyone could see in a second. That's very reassuring for me," said Kroos, who used his usual irony to continue his criticism of the action.

"Can I say that I am now a European champion because it has been officially confirmed? I don't think so," the midfielder said sardonically.  

The refereeing performance was widely questioned in both Germany and Spain, where it is recalled that Toni Kroos did not even see a yellow card for a harsh tackle that injured Pedri.

Another to react to the UEFA report was legend Lothar Matthaus. "If it is true that UEFA now admits that it was the wrong decision, it is clear that we have been cheated. It's really a pity that we are now admitting what everyone saw at the time," he also told 'Bild'.
