Kimpembe's 21-month ordeal comes to an end

PSG are between a rock and a hard place in the Champions League. The Parisian side have only managed 1 win in 4 games (3 games without a win in a row) and that has pushed them down to 25th place, which means they are out of the competition at the moment.

Luis Enrique, who has his team unbeatable in Ligue 1, knows that he has everything at stake in Munich against Bayern, in a match in which Kimpembe will be present. The French centre-back, on long-term sick leave due to a ruptured Achilles tendon, has been called up by the Asturian coach for the clash.

The Frenchman has been sidelined for 21 months and has finally seen the light at the end of the tunnel since the fateful 26th February 2023. In the match against Olympique de Marseille, the defender only completed 15 minutes after a defensive action of great merit.

The worst prognosis was confirmed when tests showed he had a ruptured Achilles tendon. The club considered a possible return in the pre-season prior to the 2024-25 season, but Kimpembe, due to continuous pain in the affected area since November last year, was forced to undergo surgery again on 2nd January 2024.

That setback prolonged his time out of action and slowed his recovery. Despite the blow, PSG kept an eye on him and even offered him a renewal until 2026. Undoubtedly, an extra motivation to come back in the best possible way. At least the player is already among those called up for a game and now all that remains is for him to get back on the pitch.
