Sami Khedira says goodbye to football. The German has decided to hang up his boots at 34-years-of-age after just a few months at Hertha, in which he has made only eight appearances this year of 2021 - only three of these have been as a starter.
The German has spent the last three seasons without playing an important and continuous role, for which reason he has decided to cut the cord and close a close a career which started in the Stuttgart youth academy.
The midfielder will say goodbye to the sport after five years with Real Madrid and another five with Juventus, as well as four in the Stuttgart first team. Throughout his whole career, Khedira has played 480 matches, 405 of which he has started. He will finish with 50 goals, 42 assists, 65 yellow cards and just the two red cards.
In terms of his list of achievements, Khedira will always remember lifting the World Cup with Germany in 2014, as well as the Champions League with Madrid, the European Super Cup, two Club World Cup, a Bundesliga, a La Liga, two Copa del Rey, a Spanish Super Cup, five Serie A, three Coppa Italia and a Supercoppa Italia.
His best spell wasn't that long ago, when he made 46 appearances for Juventus in 2016/17. In terms of goals, his best tally was in 2017/18 when he scored nine. Just three seasons later, Khedira has decided to put an end to his football career, which will end against Hoffenheim on Saturday 22 May.

The German national team didn't take long to pay their respects to one of their greatest players, as Khedira made 77 appearances - 71 of which as a starter - for his country.
