Unai Simon is the starting goalkeeper for the Spanish national team. The Basque man got the position shortly after De Gea and Kepa fell out of favour, and he started for 'La Roja' in the semi finals of the Euros last year. Nevertheless, he showed humility with regards to his situation and assured that he did not see his spot as untouchable in Luis Enrique's eyes.
"He has made it very clear to us that any one of us can play against Switzerland. And there are still players who weren't picked who could be here. I don't feel like this (the undisputed starter) not here nor for my club. Starters and substitutes are labels that are placed outside", he said to 'Marca'.
Furthermore, he stated that although "Kepa and De Gea aren't here today", no one can be certain that they won't be named in a future squad. He mentioned that "They're the manager's decisions which must be respected".
Finally, he talked about Spain's last few matches, where Spain have drawn two consecutive Nations League games: "We must improve defensively and offensively. The stats show that we have had three shots and scored twice. That's all. But I understand that football is about creating chances, having possesion in the opposition's half, finishing chances ...".
