The former Juventus striker was indicted for the illegal possession of firearms in December 2015, as well as the crime of intention to aid the Calabrian mafia group Ndrangheta.
On Wednesday morning, Iaquinta was handed a two year prison term having been found guilty of the firearms offence- two revolvers and 126 bullets were found in his home in 2015- but was cleared of the mafia charge.
Meanhwhile, Iaquinta's father was found guilty of aiding the mafia group Ndrangheta, and will serve a 19 year prison sentence.
The two men vented their anger at the judgement at the close of the court proceedings, by shouting "It's ridiculous, shame on you" at the jury.
Iaquinta spoke to the media after the verdict, stating: ""In our family, we don't even know what 'Ndrangheta is. It can't be possible. They ruined my life out of nothing, because I'm from Calabria. I'm suffering for my family and my kids, and I haven't done anything."
At a hearing for the trial in May, Iaquinta explained that he had bought the guns "for the future", as after he ended his football career, he liked to spend time at the shooting range.
The ex-professional footballer will not be imprisoned immediately, as per Italian law, which stipulates that the defendants are not found totally guilty until all levels of appeal are satisfied.
Over 140 people were put on trial for being suspected to have aided Ndrangheta , in this a crackdown one of Northern Italy's most high-profile mafia groups.
