Right-back Kieran Trippier ran to England as soon as he got a call from Newcastle. Despite the fact he was happy at the Metropolitano, he always missed the Premier League.
The defender left Spain, but he always has Simeone in his mind. “I’d love to see him in the Premier League because I think he would be unbelievable. Simeone was incredible with me. He knew how I played. He changed my game defensively. He changed my game and the work I did individually, and I learned so much from him," he told 'The Mirror'.
Trippier believes that Simeone could be very good in England although before that he needs to learn the language: "Can he manage in England one day? I would love to see it. He is a manager who has to speak fluently because he wants to get his message across. If he couldn’t get his point across he would get agitated, frustrated."
The former Atletico man also recalled how Simeone motiviated him before the final La Liga clash of the season against Valladolid, a game which saw them win the title. "One-to-one, the night before we went for the title, he showed me a video of when I signed, the press conference, where I said what I wanted to achieve with Atletico Madrid. I said that day I wanted to win the title. He remembered that and wanted to remind me. That moment spurred me on against Valladolid in that decisive last game, and we won it. Little details like that get the extra percentage out of players. He is very clever," Teippier continued.
It is not the first time Trippier praises Simeone. A few months ago he recalled how demanding he was with him, something which helped him grow. "He's relentless, he was making me work for an hour and a half after training," he revealed.
