Four second half goals was enough to overcome local rivals Bayer Leverkusen, with Reus proud of the spirit that his team-mates showed.
"The coach didn't need to say much at half-time. We hadn't completed a good warm-up beforehand, so it was almost a logical consequence that we'd play a first half like that one.
"It was clear that we'd have to show a reaction in the second half, otherwise there would've been a very different outcome. Today there were a lot of young players on the pitch again, for whom it's not easy to be 2-0 down in Leverkusen.
"It showed strength to then come back so impressively. If we can go one better in the Champions League on Wednesday, then we'll have made a good start to the season. But we'll have to play 90 good minutes then, rather than the 45 we played today," he added.
Goalkeeper, Roman Bürki, also spoke of his delight to temporarily dethrone Bayern Munich at the top of the table.
"It feels good to be top of the table. It's a nice moment, but the season is still young", he said after the game in Leverkusen.
"What's important is that we continue and build on this momentum in our upcoming games. It got a bit loud in the dressing room for a short while today, but we've often managed to come from behind before.
"We told ourselves that we'd make a good start to the second half and that we needed to get an early goal, then Leverkusen would get nervous.
"We had difficulties in the first period when it came to building from the back and we were chasing the ball, because Leverkusen put us under very good pressure. Leverkusen deserved to take the lead, but in the second half it was a completely different story. We remained patient and got the goals at the right time."
