Ashley Barnes' close-range finish was cancelled out at the death by Southamton's Italian. A goal that has proved somewhat controversial.
Referee Bobby Madley was booed off the pitch by the Burnley faithful after colliding with Ashley Westwood in the build-up to the Saints goal.
Speaking to the 'BBC', Burnley boss Sean Dyche felt his side put in "a solid enough performance to take three points" but were ultimately let-down by refereeing errors.
"It was one of them days... We can only control the controllables," he added.
Southampton's Mauricio Pellegrino, whose job on the South Coast is under increasing scrutiny, said Saturday's point was "important" for his side.
"I think the draw is fair," the Argentine added.
Youngster Josh Sims injected some energy into the Saints side when he entered the fray and could become an instrumental figure in the side's attack in years to come.
"He's an intelligent guy to make decisions. The timing and running behind is also good. Hopefully he can be good from now to be close to the team," said Pochettino speaking of the 20-year-old.
Southampton have suffered just one defeat in their last nine games. With a relatively 'easy' run-in to the end of the season, Pellegrino will be hoping his team can kick on and drive clear of the relegation scrap.
