The Catalan giants will take on Roma at the Camp Nou in the first leg of their quarter-final tie on Wednesday in what will be Paulinho's first experience of such a showdown.
Having joined Barcelona from Guangzhou Evergrande in the summer of 2017, the Brazilian midfielder has set his sights on European glory with 'Los Cules'.
He told the aforementioned media source: "It's my first Champions League, something special for me, I always dreamed of playing in it and winning it and I always watched it on the television. When you participate in it, it's totally different. We want to reach the final. It is our objective".
Paulinho also reflected on his first year with the club: "I'm learning a lot, I have played and I have continuity. Everything here is different for me. I don't know if I can evolve any more, but every day I see that I keep growing".
Although he has scored eight goals in 42 appearances for Barcelona, Paulinho is still waiting to find the back of the net in Europe.
"Barcelona is a club used to playing in the Champions League and we have the players to play two great games. We have to produce a great match at home to arrive at the return leg with a good result. Roma [though], are a great team, one which has great players.
The 29-year-old also praised his compatriot and rival, goalkeeper Alisson: "[He] is a great professional and a great person. I think he is also going through the best form of his career. This season with Romas has been impressiv and he is paramount to his team in decisive games".
Turning his attention to the first fixture, Paulinho argued: "They often said that we are favourites. They will be two big games. We are not favourites, but we want to take an important step in the Champions League".
