Real Madrid won the UEFA Super Cup after comfortably defeating Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 in Helsinki. It topped off a great few months for 'Los Blancos' after they won their 14th Champions League trophy at the back end of last season.
Coach Carlo Ancelotti analysed the contest against the Germans pitchside and once again praised Karim Benzema, who got on the score sheet. "It wasn't an easy game, they were defending very compactly, we scored and then we controlled the game well."
"You can never expect to be at your best at the beginning of the season, but we've won to start the season well," he said. Then, Ancelotti praised the squad: "I believe that having a good atmosphere can make us get better results, better play. The atmosphere is good and winning helps motivate us."
He also singled out the French striker for praise: "He's a very important player, a leader of the team. He's scored many goals, he's ended the season well and now he's going for the Ballon d'Or. Is there any doubt. I don't think anyone doubts it."
"The change was because we have games which will see those who didn't play tonight play. We've got a match on Sunday and I'm going to change the team around a bit," Ancelotti confirmed ahead of Sunday's league opener against Almeria.
