Although in England there are not the problems that exist in other leagues with team changes between big rivals, the move that took Robin van Persie in 2012 from Arsenal to Manchester United is one of the most remembered of the last decade.
The Dutchman left with controversy because he was the leader of Arsenal and one of the stars of the Premier League and has now delved into that chapter.
"I know that my departure from Arsenal to go to United is still a sensitive issue in England. But I wanted to win, I just wanted to win and I had to take that risk," he explained in the 'Effe Relativeren' podcast.
"Making money didn't interest me at all, I wanted to win the Premier League," he continued, while recalling that before Manchester United he thought about going to Juventus.
"I asked for better players to be signed even though it would have meant going into debt, but they didn't listen. It was clear that they did not want me to continue either and I began to look for options," continued Van Persie.
The forward insisted that Arsenal pushed him to leave: "I had almost done it with Juventus, but Gazidis was very hard. I warned him that my other options were United, City or stay another year and go for free, so that was a big risk.
Van Persie ended up going to Old Trafford and, although his career was downhill, he still had a spectacular first season in which he won the title under Sir Alex Ferguson.
