David Wagner’s side earned a vital victory at the John Smith stadium on Sunday, coming out on top in a feisty first half, then looking in control in the second, scoring two goals in each half.
- Feisty first half -
Most of the action came in the first 45 minutes of the game, with both sides starting off frantically from the blocks.
English midfielder Alex Pritchard opening the scoring in the 7th minute. The Huddersfield man scored his first Premier league goal, sliding the ball into the net from inside the box after Steve Mounie completed a powerful run down the left wing.
However, the lead didn’t last long, as Junior Stanislas levelled in the 13th minute for the visitors with a similar move, controlling the ball well before calmly slotting home from a Ryan Fraser run down the right.
Wagner’s side scored the third goal of the half through Mounie, who rose high to meet an Aaron Mooy set piece, powerfully heading past Asmir Begovic to the delight of the home fans. His goal capped off a highly energetic first half, with both sides looking very hungry.
- Huddersfield consolidated their lead -
The second half started in a similar fashion, but settled down fairly quickly, with the players unable to maintain the energy levels of the first half.
Huddersfield looked the better side after the break, and were deserving of a third goal, which was provided by Mounie yet again. Once more it was Mooy providing the service, putting a good ball in after a nifty pull-back just outside the area.
The Australian midfielder was fantastic for the ‘Terriers’, which made it even more worrying for the home support when he went off on a stretcher in the 75th minute.
Bournemouth did their best to get back into the game but couldn’t find a way through, with Huddersfield looking the more likely to score of the two sides.
The home side topped off the ‘Cherries’ misery with a fourth and final goal from the penalty spot in the 95th minute. After goalscorer Alex Pritchard was brought down in the box, Rajiv van La Parra stepped up and buried the penalty.
This was the last significant action of the game, ending a great day for Huddersfield, who rise out of the relegation zone into 16th.
Meanwhile, despite what will obviously be a disappointment for Eddie Howe, Bournemouth remain in 10th, one point ahead of Watford and West Ham.
