The 28-year-old was sent home from Liverpool's pre-season tour back in 2016 for allegedly flouting club rules, until joining Palace on loan in January of last year. He then signed on permanently in a £26million transfer in September.
Hodgson however insists that he has not encountered any problems with the player and said that he has a good relationship with the player.
He said: ''The fact is it's not his professionalism that's been a problem. It's been his injury problems, that's what it's been. We have a good relationship. I appreciate him as a player. There's no doubt he has incredible qualities.''
Sakho was ineligible to play against his parent club last season, but was the criticised for celebrating Liverpool's two goals on the touchline with Christian Benteke.
Hodgson added: '''I've never questioned his professionalism or had any reason to. You'd like to think sometimes when players play against their former clubs they give a little bit extra.''
