Welsh goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey has been the first player to sent off at the Qatar World Cup, after seeing red late in the day in their game against Iran.
The Guatemalan referee Mario Alberto Escobar showed the red card on 84 minutes at the Ahmed Bin Ali stadium, after going for a VAR check to review the challenge between the Nottingham Forest keeper and Porto striker Medhi Taremi.
The referee, after initially showing a yellow, changed his mind after seeing the foul again, and sent him for an early shower because the foul was very rough.
Because of this foul, Iran were able to take advantage of their extra man to get the two goals which gave them victory. The first was scored by Cheshmi and then Rezeaian had a go. Ward, the replacement goalkeeper, could not do anything.
