A host of clubs have shown interest in Grujic this summer, with Cardiff seeing an attempt to bring him back to south Wales rejected, along with approaches from Middlesbrough and Torino.
Liverpool are keen for the Serbian to secure regular football in a top five European league and having finally found an option that will allow him to do so and agreeing terms on a new deal they are finally prepared to sanction his exit.
Grujic is highly rated at Anfield, with Liverpool chiefs confident that he can challenge for a place in the first team when he returns to the club this season.
The 22-year-old is expected to commit his future at the club until 2023.
Jurgen Klopp is thought to have been key in convincing Grujic that Berlin would be the best place for him to continue his development, with Pal Dardai's squad having finished 10th in the Bundesliga last season.
