Griffith thanks fans for their support

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers revealed on Wednesday that the Scotland international would be taking an extended break from the game to deal with a number of off-field issues.

Griffiths himself had stayed out of the matter, but released a short statement on Thursday to thank fans for their messages of support.

"I just wanted to thank everyone at the club, and so many Celtic fans and other people, who have sent me such kind and powerful messages of support," he wrote.

"I thank you all sincerely and want to let you know I'm doing all I can to come back as soon as possible, a better and stronger person."

Griffiths has become a popular figure at the club since arriving from Wolves in 2014, forming a key part of the side that claimed consecutive domestic trebles.
