Some assumed that the lack of celebration was due to the nature of the goal, but Griezmann spoke in a press conference, and said that influences on his career made his celebration more muted.
"When I started, someone from Uruguay taught me the good and bad of football," the French striker said.
"They are a tough team, they remind of my club side, Atletico, because everyone works hard in attack and defence. It's a pleasure to watch. I love Uruguayan culture and Uruguayans. I have respect for Uruguay and it was normal not to celebrate my goals."
France will now go forward and play their World Cup semi-final on Tuesday evening.
