Controversy in the early stages of the competition for Real Madrid. Casemiro wheeled away in celebration after an Al Jazira defender put the ball in his own net, but the referee spotted an infringement.
The goal was allowed before the officials decided to take it to the VAR. It appeared there had been a foul from Casemiro in the build-up, but finally it was Benzema's offside position which stood in the way of Madrid opening the scoring.
The strangest game, with chance after chance coming Real's way, took a bizarre turn when the VAR came into play. We have not heard the end of this...
