Girona coach 'dreams of' beating Liverpool with Stuani 90th-minute winner

On Monday, on the eve of a “special” and “historic” day when Liverpool visit Montilivi, Girona coach Michel Sanchez affirmed that his dream is to beat the English team 1-0 with a goal by Uruguayan Cristhian Stuani in the 90th minute. In the press conference prior to the Champions League clash, the Madrid-born coach appealed to the “Girona pride” and “the magic of Montilivi” to try to beat the English side.

The Spanish coach admitted that “it is possible” that not even his best version will be enough to beat the leader of the Premier League and the Champions League, but he asked for “soul, heart and our idea” so that the fans feel “proud and represented” by Girona. In this sense, he claimed that his team has “never” made a “fool of itself” and that it makes him “very angry” that this is said because of the elimination in the Copa del Rey at the hands of Logrones, a team that plays in the Spanish fourth tier.

Míchel stressed that he has “a thousand facts” that support the fact that Liverpool is “one of the best teams in the world” and pointed out that it is a team that “dominates all the concepts of the game”. “In the last few games, they have shot more than 20 times on goal. They are a very difficult team to stop,” he added.

He also maintained that Arne Slot's team is “the best team in the world in transition” and that Egyptian striker Mohamed Salah is “in an incredible moment of form”, so he asked his players for “focus and attention for 90 minutes to defend a player who you can't leave any moment”.

Therefore, Girona, according to Míchel, will need to be “a very aggressive team defensively” and have the ball and “look forward” to try to “minimise” Liverpool's offensive power.
