Until 2018, just one team had played in all the Bundesliga seasons since it was founded in 1963. It is Hamburg, one of the great clubs in Germany who have always been rubbing shoulders with Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich.
There was a famous clock in their stadium which showed how long they had been playing in the top tier. However, their relegation to the second tier in 2018 meant it was stopped.
In order to understand the magnitude of this club, you only need to see their trophy cabinet: a Champions League (1983), three Bundesligas (1979, 1982 and 1983), two DFB Pokals (1963 and 1976), a UEFA Cup Winners Cup (1977) and an Intertoto Cup (1998) have been won by Hamburg. Before 1963, they had won another three La Liga trophies and an additional cup.
Since then, they have spent four seasons in the second tier and now they have a golden opportunity to come back into the top flight.
After coming third in a spectacular league season, the 0-1 win in the first leg in Berlin has left the time just one step away from returning to the Bundesliga and they could do so in front of their own fans.
