The Ibrox boss hopes to add to his squad, finding a replacement for Jamie Murphy for the season, as well as a new centre-half.
Bournemouth's Jack Simpson became a top target as the transfer window went on, with Rangers pressing the club for a loan deal for the 21-year-old.
Eddie Howe has been reluctant to let the switch happen.
Murphy is out for his second season, after suffering anterior cruciate knee ligament damage.
Gerrard does have Ryan Kent and Daniel Candeias, but he wants at least one more addition to sure up his squad in case of injury.
When asked about Murphy's replacement, Gerrard said:
"That will depend on whether we get through or not. We might have to line something up."
Gerrard has begun his Rangers career with a busy stretch.
The side have a 10-game unbeaten record, but have been under pressure due to midweek European games.
Rangers will clash with Motherwell on Sunday, before travelling to Bashkortostan for Ufa, and finally meeting Celtic at Parkhead.
