It is seven years since the player recieved a call that he would be signing for Everton from Bradford City.
Having arrived at the club at the age of 15, he was being compared to Wayne Rooney and started to earn a lot of money, including a £45,000 signing on bonus.
However, the amount of money he was earning at such a young age led him down a path of drink and drugs, and before he knew it his football was dramatically suffering as a consequence.
"Earning the money I was, I thought it was never going to end." Green told the 'BBC'.
"Everybody wanted to know who I was and I was enjoying life. But I never got introduced to people who would keep me on the straight and narrow. They drank or did drugs and I fell into that circle.
"I'd fallen out of love with the game and decided I didn't want to play any more."
At the age of just 22, he finds himself in the sixth-tier of the English footballing pyramid and preparing for a FA second-round qualifying match for Chester.
