Racing coach Fernando Gago said on Friday after his side's 2-1 win over Boca Juniors in the Supercopa Internacional that "this is the way forward".
"This is the way forward: we always try to win titles," said the former Boca Juniors and Velez Sarsfield, Real Madrid and Valencia of Spain and Roma, in a press conference after 'La Academia's agonising victory over the 'Xeneize'.
"In every competition we have we are going to try to fight for the title. We are working to continue to grow as a team and for the players to grow as individuals," said the Avellaneda coach.
Gago highlighted his side's second consecutive title win in the space of two months against Boca Juniors, but added that he and his players are "focused on the tournament opener on Sunday 27", referring to the start of the 2023 Argentine league.
Racing Avellaneda won the 2022 Champions Trophy last November against Hugo Ibarra's side in a hard-fought encounter, which ended with ten players sent off and the victory for the 'Academia'.
Friday's win in Abu Dhabi was the second in a row for Gago's side against Boca, who protested loudly about the late penalty that earned Gago's side a 2-1 win.
