Saints had a lot at stake against Bournemouth. After winning at Watford, it looked as if the match in front of their fans would be the definitive impulse to seize salvation.
In fact, the match started in the best way, as the locals took the lead in the first minute. And who scored the goal? Yes. Good old Long. The same player who made history four days earlier by scoring the fastest goal of the Premier League.
However, Bournemouth managed to draw on a counter-attack thanks to Gosling, and Long could have scored yet another goal, and therefore saved his team.
Southampton tried their best, but the goalkeeper managed to reject the shot. But the rebound went to the boots of a Long who, completely alone in front of goal, sent the ball to the post. Unexplainable.
