Former Barca star set to join newly-promoted Premier League side

Middlesbrough are hopeful of signing former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes on a free transfer within the next few days. 

It is understood that Valdes is scheduled to have a medical on Thursday should he agree terms with the Teesside club. 

Valdes won a whole host of honours at Barcelona before moving to Manchester United where he barely played due to the form of David de Gea.

The 34-year-old spent the second half of last season on load at Standard Liege where he won the Belgian Cup.
