Alex Song has officially announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 36. The midfielder, who rose to prominence with Arsenal, believes the time has come to say goodbye to the pitch.
The midfielder, after leaving the Gunners, joined Barcelona to try his luck in La Liga. The Cameroonian player won the domestic competition in the 2012/2013 season although his lack of playing time meant he went out on loan to the Premier League the following two seasons, to West Ham both times.
After finishing his journey in the English elite, Song had spells at Rubin Kazan, Sion and finally Djibouti, which is the latest team to enjoy having the defensive midfielder in their ranks.
He has represented his country Cameroon 49 times, although he decided to retire from international duty in 2015.
