The equaliser came in the 22nd minute, after Sergio Aguero had opened the scoring thanks to a scorcher from inside the area. Argentina were beginning to move more comfortably with an advantage on the scoreboard, but Finbogasson put paid to that idea.
Gylfi Sigurdsson sent a low cross from the right side of the box towards the hands of Argentine goalkeeper Willy Caballero, who managed to parry the ball away, albeit unconvincingly.
Unlucky for Caballero, it fell directly to Finnbogason who finished it off from six yards out. The goal marked Iceland's first World Cup goal in history, and showed that they intend to continue surprising on the international stage.
