Edinson Cavani wants to play in the Wanda Metropolitano. Atletico's doors are wide open, and with the team stirring towards a mid-season crisis, they would be more than willing to have him join them this transfer market... But it's not that easy.
Sources close to the club claim that the deal has gone from difficult to almost impossible, with PSG refusing to cooperate. The Parisians are not keen on letting one of their star players go, despite him losing protagonism to an in-form Mauro Icardi.
But Diego Simeone will not admit defeat that easily. His team's dire situation - they were just knocked out of the Copa del Rey by a team in Spain's third division - is forcing him to insist on a new goalscorer with a lot of experience.
According to 'Marca', Atletico remain optimistic. They trust PSG will somehow agree to a deal by Monday, and that all the details will be worked out before the end of the winter transfer window on Friday 31st of January.
Cavani's contract with the Ligue 1 champions ends in June of this same year, which means this is the club's last chance to cash in on the Uruguayan star. If they don't let him go, he could leave on a free transfer this summer.
Meanwhile, Atletico have not stopped trying, and they're more than willing to make the last push for the player they are in so much need of. If the deal is struck, it would cost the Spaniards around 80 million euros (transfer fee and player's wages included) according to the latest information.
