FIFA chief Infantino 'appalled' by racist insults directed at Balde

FIFA president Gianni Infantino said he was "appalled by the racist insults" directed at Barcelona player Alejandro Balde during his team's La Liga EA Sports away match against Getafe.

"I am appalled by the racist insults directed at Barcelona player Alejandro Balde during his La Liga match against Getafe and I condemn these acts, which have no place in football or in society," Infantino wrote on his official Instagram account, accompanying the text with a black and white photo of the player.

Likewise, the official, in relation to the facts denounced by Balde himself in the microphones of ‘Movistar+’ at the conclusion of the clash, indicated: "Racism is a scourge against which we must stand united to fight and defeat it. No to racism. No to any form of discrimination.

Earlier Saturday, in Spain's second division, Elche player Bambo Diaby also faced racist abuse in a 1-1 draw at Sporting Gijon. There have been numerous instances of racism in Spanish football stadiums in recent years, with Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior often targeted for abuse.
