It has been almost a month since the Qatar World Cup ended. 30 days since Argentina became world champions and France narrowly missed out on their second consecutive World Cup.
Despite it being basically a month ago, Karim Benzema's departure from the tournament is still being talked about. His compatriot Patrice Evra defended the Frenchman in comments on his Instagram account.
"The manner of it disappointed me. From the outside, I have the impression that Karim annoyed a lot of people. You, players did not support him. You have to go to war for a player like that. That happened with Di Maria, who got injured at the start of the World Cup, but then played the final and scored a goal against us," he began.
And Evra did not hesitate in slamming current coach Didier Deschamps: "It's the coach's responsibility. He makes the decisions. Deschamps always puts the team ahead of a player. But it is also said that some footballers were angry and jealous because he was much better than them."
"You're making the same mistake as the 1998 World Cup winners, who thought that the national team was theirs. The France team belongs to everyone. You want to decide who plays, but you don't have to do that or make the same mistake. We've got the Ballon d'Or in our team. If I were still there, we would have waited for Karim even before eating. But I didn't see anyone fighting for him," Evra concluded.
